Hi, I’m Alec Bieniawski.

I didn’t come to woodworking through formal training or design school. I learned (and continue to learn) by studying well-made furniture, reading everything I can find on the subject of furniture and furniture design, and just building stuff. Mistakes were part of the education, and so was restraint—learning when to simplify rather than add.

That approach shapes my work today.

My Approach

The furniture built at Copperhead Woodworks is meant to be used. Design decisions are guided by function first: how a joint handles stress, how wood moves with the seasons, how a surface wears over years of use. The beauty of the furniture is in the function and simplicity, from solid construction and honest effort, not from flashy materials or fleeting trends.

Heirloom Furniture

“Heirloom” is often used to describe things that are precious or decorative.

At Copperhead Woodworks, heirloom furniture means furniture that survives through time and long use. It remains in service as a faithful part of the owner’s home.

Each piece is built from solid hardwood, joined with traditional methods, and made to be maintained rather than replaced.

Built To Outlast

Each piece is not just built to last. It is built to outlast.

This influences everything: repairable joinery, renewable finishes, designs and details that are not fragile or purely show. It will age, but it will continue to serve the people who need it.

If a piece is still in use generations from now, quietly doing its job, I have succeeded as a furniture maker.
